By enhancing mentorship programs, experienced attorneys should help new lawyers prepare for successful healthy careers.
Promoting Diversity
The ISBA must strive to ensure that people of all races, genders, and sexual orientations are represented in the legal profession.
Building Community
We should help attorneys connect with each other and build strong relationships through technology and personal contact.
Setting Out to Make a Difference for Illinois Lawyers
Shawn Kasserman believes that by working together, the members of the ISBA can overcome the challenges facing those in the legal profession. By emphasizing respect and professionalism, we can demonstrate our integrity and our willingness to give back to our communities. We can also bring the legal community together, building relationships through both technological resources and face-to-face contact. The life-long friendships and partnerships can be leveraged to not only enhance the practice of law, but to improve the public good.
It is also imperative for the ISBA to improve leadership development. By implementing mentorship programs at law schools throughout the state of Illinois, we can help new lawyers build rich relationships with those who are more experienced, ensuring that they are prepared for a successful legal career. We can also take steps to promote diversity in the legal profession, encouraging attorneys of every race, gender, and sexual orientation in their practice and ensuring that all Illinois citizens are represented. By building strong relationships and encouraging leadership, we can ensure that Illinois lawyers are prepared to meet the challenges of the future.
My Friends,
Today I announce my candidacy for 3rd Vice President of the Illinois State Bar Association. The ISBA has benefited me immeasurably since I joined the Young Lawyers Division in 1991. It is time for me to give back. My pledge is to highlight, enhance, and build upon the foundation the ISBA has proudly established over the last 142 years.
Times change, but values do not. My objective is to help membership foster the innovations rapidly headed our way through technology while assuring that we continue to cherish the relationships that are the heart of the ISBA. I believe that the privilege of being an ISBA member comes with a responsibility to mentor, assist, and promote other lawyers – of every gender, race, and sexual orientation. I have tried to hold true to that maxim my entire career, and it drives my decision to run for this office.
I am excited to travel across Illinois to meet old friends and make new ones, but most importantly, to hear what ISBA members feel their Statewide Bar Association can to do for them. I would love to interact with you in person, by phone (312-605-8812), or by email.
Very truly yours,
Shawn Kasserman
